What Weld Hood Is Right For Me?

People ask "What's a great cheap weld hood?" However I could never do that, your safety is way too important to me. Your first priority in choosing a weld hood is to your safety. You may have to save for a couple more weeks to do that, but you are worth the wait!

When looking for the safest weld hood here are some things to consider...

Shape--I find an oval or rectangle shape gives my more neck protection from welding arc as opposed to a square or round shaped hood.

Viewing Area--I love a larger viewing area; you are focused on one area and this is not a necessity, however its my personal preference. If you wear glasses or want to put a magnifying lens in your hood (this is a possibility) look for a hood with that has that feature.

Controls--Look where the controls are to change shade, delay, and more sure you have easy access to these controls.

Replacement Lenses--Check for the availability and cost of replacement lenses. If you re going to be welding you want a clear view and scratches and weld fume crap on the lens will hurt your eyesight over time. MIG lenses get changed about 4 times as often as TIG lenses in my experience. Make sure you can get both inside and out side replacement lenses for the hood you choose.

Head Gear--Head gear makes a hood in my opinion. They range from basic gear like you would have in a hard hat to some really sophisticated contraptions that allow for all sorts of adjustments. I take hair style into account before recommending a hood to someone. If you have your hair tied back in any way sophisticated head gear usually pulls your hair. Headgear can be traded out in some instances. Check with the manufacture.
